Who We Are
I Can Do It! Kids Clinic (or ICDIKC) is a paediatric Occupational Therapy clinic located in Miranda, NSW.
Our clinic provides fun and engaging Occupational Therapy services to children aged 0-18 years of age. The goal of Occupational Therapy intervention is to improve your child’s capacity, or modify their tasks and environment, to facilitate their independence in their daily lives.
For a child, their necessary and chosen activities (i.e. occupations) throughout their daily lives include:
-
Self Care skills, such as:
-
Self-feeding (i.e. cutlery use, fussy eating)
-
Dressing
-
Grooming
-
Toileting
-
Sleeping
-
-
Community access (e.g. going to the shops or the park)
-
Play and social skills
-
Completion of school work
-
Participation in leisure activities and hobbies
The children that we help and support can experience a range of skills, abilities and diagnoses. There is no pre-requisite for accessing occupational therapy intervention, other than you and your child are motivated to improve their independence!
About I Can Do It! Kids Clinic
I Can Do It! Kids Clinic was created to help empower children and develop their capacity to achieve independence and mastery in their lives.
Although therapy can sometimes have its challenges, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing the pure joy in a child’s eyes when they have achieved their goal. The confidence and pride that is expressed when a child has mastered a new skill and unlocked a different mindset is very special. It’s why we do what we do.
The approach taken at I Can Do It! Kids Clinic is to:
Our Approach
Connect!
Connect with the child and their support team (i.e. parents, siblings, teachers and other health professionals). Connection is the most important aspect of our therapeutic approach because without it, the child won’t make any meaningful progress.
Part of this process is to connect the child with their inner potential. When a child believes in themselves, therapy is more impactful (and fun!).
Grow!
Fun, intentional and creative therapy sessions are delivered at ICDIKC. Therapy combines a top-down and bottom-up approach. This means that not only will your child learn task specific strategies and improve their knowledge, but the fundamental motor and sensory skills are developed also.
Through this approach, your child’s understanding and physical capacity to complete a task improves simultaneously.
Succeed!
The journey to success is different for every child. For some, this may be achieving a big milestone, such as a little one feeding themselves independently for the first time. For others, it may look like having fewer meltdowns or sleepless nights.
Success at ICDIKC is measured by the small wins that are achieved on the way to a larger goal. Each step to success is celebrated as it honours the hard work of the child and their family.
